Characteristic of Lubricants in PVC application.

Characteristic of Lubricants in PVC application.

Although there are no clear definitions, typically lubricants are classified as “in- ternal” if they reduce melt viscosity, are soluble in PVC, provide little metal release, and/or have little effect on fusion or promote fusion. They are classified as “external” if they provide metal release and are not soluble in PVC.

Whats is the difference between PE wax and FT wax?

FT wax is a by-product of coal chemical industry, paraffin wax is separated from petroleum distillation, PE wax is low molecular weight polyethylene, Fischer-Tropsch wax consists of straight chain, saturated high carbon alkanes with a relative molecular mass of 500-1000. So this chemical has a fine crystal structure, high melting point, narrow melting point range, low oil content, low needle penetration, low mobility, low melt viscosity, hardness, wear resistance and high stability.

Differences between PE wax and FT wax:

(1) Molecular weight. The molecular weight of Fischer-Tropsch wax is much lower than that of PE wax, and the branched chain is also less, with high crystallinity, which is easy to penetrate into the high-viscosity macromolecular chain and significantly reduce the melt viscosity, with little migration during processing and obvious lubrication effect in the later stage.

(2) Fischer-Tropsch wax is saturated with straight alkanes, which does not contain double bonds, and has strong anti-oxidation ability and good weather resistance.

(3) The viscosity of Fischer-Tropsch wax is much lower than that of PE wax, only about 10. The same lubricating effect can be achieved with less dosage. The use amount is only 70-80% of PE wax.

Fischer-Tropsch wax is more compatible with PVC and can be competent as both internal and external lubricant. It can be used as a good internal lubricant to effectively control shear conditions, promote flow, control friction and melt properties, thus improving thermal stability. At the same time, Fischer-Tropsch waxes give the best physical and processing properties to PVC products due to their high crystallinity and high linearity structure. Depending on the need, Fischer-Tropsch process can synthesize alkanes of different chain lengths to change the molecular weight of the final product and form a series of products.

What is the difference between oxidized PE wax and the PE wax ?

Oxidized polyethylene wax, also known as OPE wax, is a bright plastic auxiliaries for internal and external lubrication. It is mainly produced by using polyethylene paraffin stearate stearic acid sulphate heated in a reaction vessel to a temperature of 380 °C for 6 to 8 hours.

The difference between oxidized polyethylene wax and polyethylene wax is that the oxidized polyethylene wax contains a modified wax product of a polar gene, so that the properties of oxidized polyethylene wax such as durability and polishing are much better than polyethylene wax. The chemical properties of oxidized polyethylene wax are more stable than polyethylene wax, non-toxic and non-corrosive, and make oxidized polyethylene wax more widely used.

Oxidized polyethylene wax application:
1. Good emulsifying property, because a large amount of oxygen-containing groups are introduced during oxidation of oxidized polyethylene wax, the interfacial tension during emulsification is lowered, so that a stable oxidized polyethylene wax emulsion can be obtained, and reduced the amount of the emulsification agent, which is very important for the polish.

  1. Oxidized polyethylene wax has good compatibility with rubber, plastic, paraffin and other materials. The internal and external lubrication of PVC is relatively balanced, the addition of oxidized polyethylene wax to the rigid transparent PVC formulation is superior to other lubricants.
  2. The molecular chain of oxidized polyethylene wax has a certain amount of carbonyl and hydroxyl groups. The oxidized polyethylene wax is an excellent new polar wax, so the compatibility with fillers, pigments and polar resins is significantly improved, lubricity and dispersibility. It is superior to polyethylene wax and also has coupling property.
  3. Oxidized polyethylene wax has good compatibility with polyolefin resin, etc. It has good moisture resistance at normal temperature, strong chemical resistance, excellent electrical properties, improved appearance of finished products, low viscosity and high softening point. Good hardness and other special properties, non-toxic, good thermal stability, low volatility at high temperature, excellent dispersion of fillers and pigments, excellent external lubricity, strong internal lubrication, and even Together, it can improve the production efficiency of plastic processing and reduce production costs.
